I have always been an observational figurative painter who works primarily from life. I talked to my models and this helped me to connect with my feelings about them. When the pandemic began, I lost access to my models, so I set up a home studio in my basement and I began to paint from photographs. I missed the interaction with my models and this isolation led to a great deal of introspection at age 83. I turned to painting self portraits and have created a new series over the last six months.
