Joe Steiner is a figurative artist who was born in Chicago, IL in 1939. He is largely self-taught and finds inspiration in urban environments and the people who live there. Before the Covid pandemic began in 2020, he primarily painted people from life and worked in his studio in the East Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Most recently, he has been working in his home studio, where he has been painting from photographs and creating a new series of self-portraits. In addition to painting, he also makes ceramic masks.
Joe has had numerous exhibitions and has taught art in the Chicago Public Schools, at Oakton Community College and in Florida. His favorite artists include Alice Neel, Lucian Freud and Lovis Corinth.
